Reservoir management has been raised to a new level with the emergence of permanently installed marine 4D/4C seismic reservoir monitoring systems. Traditional three dimensional (3D) seismic surveys are well established techniques used today for the investigation of oil and gas reserves. By adding the components of "time-lapse" and "repeatability" to 3D seismic, 4D seismic has evolved into a tool that promises to steer oil and gas company decisions in the selection of production methods and facilities over the life of a field. As a result, petroleum companies will then increase revenues from the higher hydrocarbon recovery rates.
